These pioneering scientists described environments, places, and cultures. In their travels throughout the country, they recorded and identified thousands of plants and animals, many of them unknown to science at the time. Imagine if one of these pioneering scientists were transported to the present day and traveled the same routes taken by these 19th-century travelers? What would their impression of these places be today? Comparing accounts from that era with those of today, the series aims to create a broad overview of Brazil, highlighting the transformations that have occurred over the last two hundred years and the country’s natural diversity.
